Ardgay Game Ltd
Ardgay, Highland
Salary: £45,000–£55,000 depending on experience
Ardgay Game is one of the UK's leading wild venison processors, supplying food manufacturers, wholesalers, foodservice and export customers across the UK and Europe.
We're looking for a practical, experienced Finance & Admin Manager to keep the finance and admin function running properly, make sure the information in Sage is accurate, and help Sales and Operations make better day-to-day decisions.
This is a hands-on role. You need to be comfortable with the detail — invoices, Sage, cash, debtors, suppliers and paperwork — while also being experienced enough to support non-finance managers and give the CEO a clear view of what is happening.
The role
The core of the role is making sure the finance information is accurate, up to date and useful. This includes keeping Sage right, making sure invoices and payments are correct, updating the monthly forecast from actual results, and producing a clear management pack that shows whether the business is on track on profit, cash, stock, sales and operational performance. You'll also be responsible for:
- Managing the day-to-day finance function
· Making sure invoices are raised, coded, checked and recorded correctly
· Keeping Sage accurate, tidy and up to date so the business can trust the numbers
· Checking that the right information is being captured from Sales, Operations and Finance before reports are produced
- Monitoring cash flow and maintaining rolling cash flow forecasts
- Managing credit control and ensuring customers pay on time
- Ensuring suppliers, payroll and HMRC are paid accurately and on time
· Preparing monthly management accounts and checking they tie properly to Sage
· Updating the rolling forecast each month and explaining movements against plan
· Producing and owning the monthly management reporting pack for the leadership team
· Helping Sales and Operations understand the financial impact of decisions around price, volume, yield, labour, stock and cash collection
· Speaking regularly with Sales and Operations so issues are understood early, not after month-end
- Ensuring VAT returns, statutory filings and year-end accounts are completed accurately and on time
- Managing and supporting our Finance & Office Administrator
- Working with our external accountants and professional advisers
- Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes and systems
We're looking for someone who
- Has experience managing finance within an SME
- Understands management accounts, cash flow and forecasting
· Has strong management accounting experience and can connect Sage actuals, forecasts, cashflow and operational performance
- Is confident managing debtors and working capital
- Can explain financial performance in a clear and practical way
· Can support non-finance managers by explaining the numbers clearly and helping them understand what needs action
· Is very confident using Sage and has a strong eye for detail
· Is happy being hands-on with admin and finance detail, not just reviewing reports
· Can use Excel well and is open to using AI tools such as Claude or Microsoft Copilot to improve reporting, admin and process efficiency
- Is organised, proactive and enjoys improving processes
- Is qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience
What success looks like
- Customers pay on time.
- Suppliers and employees are paid on time.
- Finance is accurate, organised and fully compliant.
· Sage is accurate, tidy and reliable.
· Invoices, supplier information and finance records are correct before they become a problem.
- The monthly management pack is delivered on time.
· The forecast is updated monthly from Sage actuals and reflects the latest view of the business.
· Sales and Operations have practical financial information to support better day-to-day decisions.
- Cash flow and profit forecasts are accurate and up to date.
- The leadership team understands whether the business is on track and why.
This is primarily an office-based role in Ardgay. Once established in the role, there is flexibility for occasional home working by agreement.
If you'd like to play a key role in a well-established Scottish food business where your work will directly influence commercial decisions, we'd love to hear from you.
