Location: Bridgwater Urgent Treatment Centre, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 4GU (Primary Location)
Job Type: Agency / Temporary
Duration: Block Booking Available (Preferred)
Shift Times:
- 08:00 – 15:00
- 10:00 – 18:00
- 13:00 – 21:00
- Early and late shifts may be combined.
About the Role
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is currently seeking an experienced Band 7 Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) to support Bridgwater Urgent Treatment Centre on a block booking basis.
This role requires an autonomous practitioner with extensive urgent and emergency care experience, capable of independently assessing, investigating, diagnosing, treating, and safely discharging or referring patients presenting with undifferentiated minor illness, minor injuries, and acute conditions.
The successful candidate will also provide clinical leadership, support patient flow, mentor junior staff, and work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team.
Essential Requirements
- Current NMC registration
- Master's level qualification (or equivalent experience) in Advanced/Emergency/Urgent Care Practice
- Minimum 4 years post-registration clinical experience
- Extensive experience working autonomously within UTC, MIU, A&E, or Urgent Care settings
- Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification (Essential)
- Experience managing Trauma presentations (Essential)
- Experience requesting and interpreting X-rays (Essential)
- Current IR(ME)R certification
- Radiographic Interpretation qualification
- Adult & Paediatric Immediate Life Support certification
- Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- Strong safeguarding knowledge
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS (Update Service preferred)
Clinical Skills Required
- Autonomous assessment and management of minor illness and injuries
- Comprehensive history taking and physical examination
- Differential diagnosis and clinical decision-making
- Requesting and interpreting X-rays
- Independent prescribing
- Suturing and wound closure
- Fracture assessment, splinting and casting
- Local anaesthetic administration and nerve blocks
- Incision and drainage procedures
- Foreign body removal
- Airway management and emergency life support
- IV and IO access
- Sepsis recognition and management
- Safeguarding assessments
- Referral to specialist services
- Clinical leadership and supervision of junior staff
- Safe discharge planning and documentation
