Job Overview
We are a Commercial Workshop based in Newport. We are responsible for maintaining/repairing approx 140 vehicles and trailers.
The hours will be 35 (approximately 7 hours per day).
We are looking for a qualified HGV Class 1 Driver. The role will include taking HGV vehicles and/or trailers for MOT. You will also be required to collect or deliver HGV vehicles and/or trailers to customers.
In addition to the above, you will carry out some administrative duties, assisting in ensuring all worksheets are completed by our technicians and submitted in a timely manner.
Responsibilities - Main Duties
- Take HGVs and/or Trailers to the MOT test centre - must have some mechanical skills to understand what is required at the test centre, and be able to make any minor adjustments (eg. change a bulb).
- Must have good communication skills to be comfortable in speaking to DVSA examiners. Also to be comfortable in chasing paperwork from the technicians.
- Shunting - Collect/deliver customers vehicles for maintenance.
- Administrative duties to include: ensuring completion of worksheets for the technicians, ensuring all parts included are captured. Timesheets and all paperwork is submitted in a timely manner.
- Stock take of parts, ensuring parts are returned to supplier promptly when not required.
Experience
- Proven recent experience as a Commercial Driver with a valid CLASS 1 driving licence, with the ability to be able to manoeuvre a tractor unit and trailer (you will be requested to demonstrate this ability at interview)
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Good communication skills to interact effectively with clients and colleagues, and be comfortable in speaking to DVSA examiners.
- Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and best practices in commercial driving.
- Good administrative capability to support techncians.
Pay
There will be two elements to the pay. The main role of taking vehicles for MOT will be paid at a higher rate than the administrative element of the role. There will be a minimum of 4 MOTs in any week.

Pay: £13.00-£15.00 per hour
