Job Overview
Wickhambrook Surgery in Suffolk is looking to welcome into our busy practice an adaptable and friendly individual to take up the role of prescription clerk to join the team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. The successful candidate will ideally commence as soon as possible to commence training. The position is offered at 20 hours per week during the training period, increasing to 25 hours per week upon completion of training and commencement of the 12 month contract.
As a prescription clerk, you will play a vital role in supporting the safe and efficient processing of repeat prescription requests. Working closely with GPs, clinical pharmacists, dispensary staff, and administrative colleagues, you will help ensure that patients receive their medication in a timely and accurate manner.
Responsibilities
- To support the Dispensary Manager in the delivery of safe and efficient responses to patient medication requirements.
- Dealing with queries and repeat prescription requests in person, by telephone and electronically, ensuring all current medication has relevant, current authorisations.
- Dealing with clerical matters such as emails, changes of patient details, completion of forms etc. as required.
- Checking and completion of tasks as appropriate.
- Maintaining accurate patient records at all times, read coding as appropriate, and related admin to required quality standards and in line with information governance, GDPR and DPA regulations.
- Dealing with stock, to include unpacking, shelf filling, stock rotation and checking of expiry dates
- Housekeeping tasks to ensure adherence to infection control policy
- Always maintaining a clean and safe working environment
- Maintain accurate records at all times, read coding entries appropriately
- Be conversant with and adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) governing safe dispensing, information governance and patient confidentiality.
- Provide holiday / sick leave cover for other dispensary staff
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a clerical role is preferred.
- Experience as a pharmacy technician is an advantage but not essential.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in using office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to data protection regulations.
