We’re looking for an experienced Finance Administrator / Assistant Accountant to join our growing team at MEL.
This is a key position within the business, suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership of the day-to-day finance function and takes pride in producing accurate, well-organised financial information.
We’re looking for someone who is confident working with Xero, experienced in VAT and CIS, and capable of managing the finance administration of a busy construction related engineering business with minimal supervision.
The Role
Working closely with our Finance Manager, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day financial administration of the business, including:
- Processing supplier invoices accurately using Xero
- Raising and issuing customer invoices
- Preparing supplier payment runs
- Bank reconciliations
- Managing credit control and customer account queries
- Preparing VAT returns and CIS administration
- Reconciling supplier and customer accounts
- Producing financial reports and supporting management information
- Investigating and resolving account discrepancies
- Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting month-end procedures
- Liaising with suppliers, customers and colleagues on finance-related matters
- Supporting continuous improvements to our finance systems and processes
About You
You’ll be an experienced finance professional who enjoys working accurately, solving problems and taking ownership of your work.
Ideally you’ll have:
- Proven experience in a finance, accounts or assistant accountant role
- Strong working knowledge of Xero Accounting Software
- Experience preparing VAT returns, CIS administration, supplier payments and bank reconciliations
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Strong Excel and spreadsheet skills
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- The ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
- A proactive, positive attitude and the confidence to work independently
- Excellent communication skills with both colleagues and customers
Desirable:
- AAT qualification (or studying towards one)
- Previous experience within the construction, engineering or contracting sector
- Knowledge of CIS subcontractor accounting
