Position: Math Instructor – PRU (Pupil Referral Unit)

We are currently seeking a proactive and academically strong Math Instructor to join a well-established Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in Surrey. This role involves working with students who are medically vulnerable or require an alternative provision pathway, supporting their academic and personal development.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Maths, alongside confident classroom and behaviour management skills. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to students who need structure, encouragement, and specialist support.
The PRU also runs a thriving outreach programme, working with families, schools, and students to help prevent permanent exclusions and promote positive engagement with learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise classes in the absence of the teacher, ensuring students remain engaged and on task.
- Deliver and support pre-set lessons, primarily across core subjects, with a focus on Maths.
- Maintain a calm and productive classroom environment.
- Build positive relationships with students and support them in meeting learning goals.
- Contribute to wider outreach work where needed.
Essential Requirements:
- A minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant subject (Maths preferred).
- Experience working with secondary-aged students, ideally in a PRU or alternative provision setting.
- Strong classroom management and adaptability.
- A proactive, compassionate approach to working with vulnerable learners.
- Commitment to inclusive education and student progress.
Desirable:
- A master’s degree or aspiration to move into teaching.
- Previous experience working in SEMH or alternative education settings.
