Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer – Electrical Bias
Location: Weeton, Lancashire (PR4)
Salary: Circa £50,000 per annum
Contract: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract
Hours: Days – approximately 7:00am–4:00pm or 8:00am–5:00pm
Working Pattern: 5 days from 7, including 2 weekends from 4
The Opportunity
We are recruiting an experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer with a strong electrical background to join a busy, highly automated food-manufacturing operation in Weeton, Lancashire.
This is a 12-month contract, paying around £50,000 per annum
This is very much a hands-on engineering role, working directly with automated food-production and processing machinery.
You'll be responsible for keeping production moving – diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults, responding to breakdowns, carrying out planned maintenance and getting machinery safely back into production as quickly as possible.
Working Hours & On-Call
The normal working day will be approximately:
7:00am–4:00pm or 8:00am–5:00pm
You'll work 5 days from 7, which will include approximately 2 weekends out of every 4.
There is also an on-call rota, typically covering approximately 3 nights per week.
Importantly, you receive an additional payment simply for being on call, whether you're actually called out or not.
Any specific on-call/call-out arrangements and payments will be discussed fully during the recruitment process.
What You'll Be Doing
This is a genuinely multi-skilled position involving both electrical and mechanical maintenance, including:
- Electrical and mechanical fault-finding
- Reactive breakdown maintenance
- Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
- Working on automated food-production lines
- Diagnosing electrical faults on machinery and control systems
- Motors, sensors, contactors and associated electrical equipment
- Conveyor maintenance
- Replacing bearings, belts and mechanical components
- Mechanical repairs and adjustments
- Identifying root causes of recurring breakdowns
- Minimising production downtime
- Routine machinery inspections
- Working closely with production teams
- Maintaining high engineering, safety and hygiene standards
What We're Looking For
For this position, you must hold a recognised electrical qualification and have previous hands-on maintenance engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
You'll ideally have:
- Recognised electrical engineering/maintenance qualification
- Strong electrical fault-finding ability
- Multi-skilled electrical and mechanical maintenance experience
- Manufacturing or production engineering experience
- Automated machinery experience
- Conveyor maintenance experience
- Experience changing bearings, belts, motors and other components
- PPM and reactive maintenance experience
- Ability to diagnose faults methodically under production pressure
Previous experience within food manufacturing, FMCG, packaging, processing or another highly automated production environment would be particularly advantageous.
The Engineer We're Looking For
We need somebody who is genuinely comfortable being hands-on.
You could be diagnosing an electrical fault on an automated production line one minute and replacing a bearing or repairing a conveyor the next.
This isn't a purely electrical position and it isn't a supervisory desk role.
We need an experienced multi-skilled engineer who can get onto the factory floor, identify problems and fix machinery.
