Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is seeking an enthusiastic ST8 Breast Surgery Resident to join our expanding Breast Surgery team at an exciting time of investment and change.
Following approval of our Breast Service Reconfiguration Programme, we are investing in our workforce to increase diagnostic capacity, improve patient pathways and reduce reliance on weekend services. This newly created post represents the first phase of an ambitious programme to develop a clinically excellent, equitable and sustainable breast service across our Trust.
The successful candidate will become a member of a motivated multidisciplinary team, delivering care to symptomatic and breast screening patients.
This is far more than a traditional training post. You will become an integral member of a forward-thinking multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality breast care while helping shape the future configuration of services.
Working alongside experienced Consultant Breast Surgeons, Breast Radiologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Oncology colleagues, you will gain extensive experience across the entire breast pathway.
The post holder will attend at the weekly Breast MDT, the one stop and treatment planning clinics, and theatre lists. The position will encompass service provision while also addressing individual learning needs and offering training and development opportunities through the aforementioned clinical activities. The post holder will have opportunities to participate in audits and quality improvement projects.
- Breast Assessment and management of benign and malignant breast disease.
- Counselling patients with a new diagnosis of breast cancer, discussing therapeutic options, understanding how co-morbidities influence the surgical management.
- Engaging with the multidisciplinary team on formulating a treatment plan and working efficiently with other specialties, such as pathologists, breast care nurses, oncologists, radiologists.
- Developing skills in magtrace sentinel lymph node biopsy, targeted axillary dissection and axillary clearance.
- Developing skills in magseed guided wide local excision, therapeutic mammoplasty, and chest wall perforator flaps partial reconstruction.
Participating in audits and research projects.
