The Business Events department sits within the Marketing & Business Development Directorate, promoting Scotland globally as a destination for association congresses, corporate meetings, incentives and sector‑aligned events by educating clients, intermediaries and stakeholders about Scotland’s capabilities. It operates through two specialist streams— Associations & Sectors (A&S) and Corporate & Incentive (C&I) — each requiring distinct expertise, market knowledge and long‑term relationship building. The team influences decision‑makers, supports bids, and connects clients with Scotland’s leading venues, academic centres of excellence and policy landscape. It also provides national level coordination, strategic leadership and marketing to enhance Scotland’s competitiveness. The team works closely with other departments including Marketing, Content, Corporate Affairs and shared support services such as Legal, Procurement and Finance.
The post holder is responsible for driving policy aligned and impact focused elements of Scotland’s Business Events activity, translating national government priorities into strategic propositions that strengthen Scotland’s business events offering. Working with the Senior Business Events Manager (Association and Sectors), you will manage relationships across government, academia, innovation centres and national partners to position business events as a driver of economic, social and wellbeing outcomes. The role also supports the Head of Business Events to facilitate and effectively run a new business events strategic group for Scotland, which is includes representatives from government, DMOs, academia and key stakeholders. The post-holder will support this group and the Head of Business Events to deliver a national strategic plan for Scotland, outlining key strategic priorities for the sector in order to drive a step change in demand for business events in Scotland. The role will also manage the Annual Associations & Sectors Survey.
