Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Floor Layer to join our construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining various types of flooring in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. This role requires attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team. The position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a background in construction and related trades to develop their skills further.
Duties
- Prepare subfloor surfaces by cleaning, levelling, and ensuring they meet specifications for flooring installation.
- Measure and cut flooring materials accurately using hand tools and power tools.
- Install a variety of flooring types including hardwood, laminate, vinyl, and tiles according to schematics and project plans.
- Use carpentry skills to modify or adapt existing structures as needed for flooring installation.
- Apply adhesives, sealants, and finishes to ensure durable and aesthetically pleasing results.
- Operate power tools safely and efficiently during installation and repair processes.
- Follow schematics and technical drawings to ensure precise placement of flooring materials.
- Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment used during installation projects.
- Maintain a clean work environment by disposing of waste materials responsibly and organising tools effectively.
- Collaborate with other tradespeople such as carpenters and painters to complete projects on time.
Skills
- Proven experience in construction or flooring installation is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with hand tools such as saws, chisels, hammers, and screwdrivers.
- Knowledge of carpentry techniques relevant to flooring installation.
- Ability to read schematics, technical drawings, or blueprints accurately.
- Experience with construction painting is a plus but not essential.
- Skilled in operating power tools safely including drills, saws, sanders, and grinders.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan tasks effectively.
- Good physical fitness with the ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods.
- Attention to detail ensuring high-quality workmanship in all aspects of flooring work.
- Must be able to fit LVT.
