P&I Generators provides critical-power solutions to customers across the UK. We install, maintain and hire generators and UPS systems that help keep essential services operating.
We are looking for an experienced Credit Controller who can take genuine ownership of our customer accounts. You will not simply send statements and chase invoices, you will identify what is preventing payment, bring the right people together and make sure actions are followed through.
This is an important role in a growing business, working closely with our Management Accountant and the Service, Projects, Sales and Finance teams.
What you will own
- The sales ledger and aged-debt position.
- Weekly cash-collection forecasts.
- Customer contact and payment commitments.
- Visibility of every overdue invoice and application for payment.
- The resolution and escalation of invoice queries.
- Customer credit limits, payment terms and account status.
- Clear reporting on what will be paid, when it will be paid and what could prevent payment.
What you will do
- Proactively contact customers before and after invoices become due.
- Confirm that invoices, applications and supporting information have been received and approved.
- Obtain firm payment dates and record all promises and follow-up actions.
- Investigate disputed invoices and coordinate their resolution across P&I.
- Maintain accurate notes against every overdue balance.
- Reconcile customer accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Issue statements, reminders and formal collection correspondence.
- Obtain remittance advice and assist with cash allocation.
- Monitor credit limits and complete customer credit checks.
- Recommend account holds or revised payment terms where appropriate.
- Escalate persistent, high-value or high-risk debts.
- Support the recovery of retentions and certified applications.
- Produce weekly aged-debt reports and a reliable cash-collection forecast.
- Identify recurring causes of delayed payment and help improve the underlying processes.
What success looks like
Within your first six months:
- Management has a dependable weekly view of expected customer receipts.
- Every overdue item has a clear status, owner and next action.
- Long-standing debt has reduced materially.
- Customer queries are identified and resolved more quickly.
- Payment problems are escalated before they become serious.
- Internal teams understand what information is needed to secure payment.
- Customers receive accurate invoices and supporting documents on time.
What we are looking for Essential
- Previous experience in credit control, accounts receivable or sales ledger.
- Confidence managing a busy commercial customer ledger.

- Experience with applications for payment, retentions and customer portals.

The person we need

You will be comfortable challenging both customers and colleagues appropriately, while maintaining positive working relationships.
You will demonstrate P&I’s values of Safety, Raise the Bar, Integrity, Teamwork and Positivity.
