Plant Operative – Straw Pellet Production

Overview
We are looking for experienced Plant Operatives to join the team at our recently commissioned straw pellet production facility.
The plant produces UK wheat straw pellets using a modern automated production system. This is a hands-on operational role requiring good mechanical knowledge, practical problem-solving skills and the ability to keep a busy production plant running safely and efficiently.
We are recruiting for both day and night shift positions, working a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern.
Previous mechanical or industrial plant experience is required. Experience working with SCADA systems or automated production equipment would be a strong advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor the straw pellet production plant and associated machinery.
- Monitor the plant through the SCADA control system, responding to alarms, faults and changes in production conditions.
- Maintain continuous production wherever possible by identifying and resolving operational issues.
- Carry out hands-on mechanical maintenance, adjustments and basic repairs as required.
- Conduct regular plant inspections and identify potential faults before they result in downtime.
- Keep machinery, production areas and the wider plant clean, safe and operational.
- Load and unload incoming wheat straw deliveries and outgoing straw pellet loads.
- Operate plant and material-handling equipment as required.
- Monitor product flow and production performance throughout the shift.
- Complete shift records and communicate any faults, maintenance requirements or production issues to the wider team.
- Follow all site health and safety procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
Experience & Skills
Essential:
- Previous mechanical, engineering, manufacturing or industrial plant experience.
- Good practical mechanical knowledge and confidence working around machinery.
- Ability to diagnose basic mechanical and operational faults.
- Comfortable carrying out hands-on maintenance and manual tasks.
- Able to work independently and as part of a shift team.
- Reliable, practical and able to remain focused in a production environment.
- Willing and able to work a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern, including either day or night shifts.
Desirable:
- Previous experience operating a SCADA system.
- Experience within pellet production, biomass, agriculture, feed mills, manufacturing or similar processing environments.
- Experience operating loading or material-handling machinery.
- Basic electrical or additional engineering knowledge.
