Senior Document Controller Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C
As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the CWA Wide Section.
What will you do?
The Senior Document Controller will lead document control activities within the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), providing senior-level oversight of the project’s information management processes and the Common Data Environment (CDE). You'll ensure all project documentation is correctly registered, classified, distributed, tracked, and archived in accordance with CWA procedures, ISO 19650 Information Management standards, and ISO 9001 Quality Management principles. You will support the Information Manager in implementing and maintaining the project Information Management Plan, lead the administration and governance of the CDE (Asite), mentor and guide Document Controllers within the team, and serve as the primary escalation point for document control matters across CWA project teams and Supply Chain Partners.
Lead the project document management system within the Common Data Environment, ensuring it meets CWA and Client needs throughout the project lifecycle
- Drive compliance with ISO 19650 information standards, naming conventions, metadata allocation and CDE workflows across all teams and Supply Chain Partners
- Register, file and archive formal documents in Asite with accurate metadata capture and document identification
- Manage the complete document lifecycle from receipt through classification, distribution, review, approval and archiving
- Implement and monitor EDMS workflows to ensure correct version control and system functionality
- Manage receipt, review, classification and archiving of all technical, commercial and contractual documentation from internal teams, Partners and the Client
- Follow-up on construction execution documents, quality records and Client comments, escalating delays or governance risks
- Compile and index quality records including Certificates, Lifetime Quality Records and handover reports
- Perform quality checking and compliance verification before document issuance
- Register and control all project deviations including Requests for Information, Field Change Requests and Non-conformances until closure
- Establish and manage document distribution matrices aligned to governance and contractual obligations
- Support implementation and maintenance of the project Information Management Plan
- Monitor Task Information Delivery Plan compliance and report performance against milestones
- Administer the Common Data Environment including user accounts, access rights and information security
- Maintain metadata quality through regular audits and corrections
- Act as the senior CWA document control point of contact for all internal and external stakeholders
- Produce performance reports and own the document control KPI framework
- Train Supply Chain Partners and Client staff on document control processes and EDMS tools
- Lead process improvements and embed continuous improvement culture
- Support information governance, audit activities and external accreditation preparation
What are we looking for?
Knowledge & Skills
Essential
- Have significant experience in document control and information management on construction, engineering, infrastructure, energy, or major project environments, with the ability to operate independently and lead others.
- Be proficient in operating and administering Common Data Environments such as Asite, Business Collaborator, ProjectWise, Aconex, or equivalent; be able to configure user accounts, workflows, and access rights.
- Have a thorough working knowledge of document lifecycle management, including registration, workflow, review, approval, version control, and archiving processes.
- Be a self-starter who takes the initiative, is tenacious, and is passionate about quality, information governance, and continuous improvement.
- Have attention to detail and appreciate the importance of accurate record keeping, metadata integrity, and conforming with project procedures and ISO standards.
- Take ownership of your work and the work of the document control team; work effectively with minimal supervision and escalate issues to the Information Manager in a structured and timely manner.
- Be able to multitask and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder project environment.
- Have excellent communication skills and be able to provide training and guidance to people from all backgrounds and all levels of seniority, from site operatives to director level.
- Ensure that teams receive the necessary assistance and appropriate processes are being followed; actively monitor compliance and intervene where standards are not being met.
- Demonstrate mentoring and coaching capability; be able to support, develop, and guide Document Controllers within the team.
- Be a good listener, work well with others, and build effective working relationships with internal teams, Supply Chain Partners, and the Client.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Excel and standard office technology; be able to quickly learn and become proficient in new software and EDMS platforms.
- Knowledge and practical application of ISO 19650 Information Management requirements, including information container naming conventions, TIDP processes, and CDE status codes.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management principles and their application to document control and quality records management.
- Awareness of ISO 27001 Information Security principles as applicable to CDE access management and information handling.
- Significant experience in information management or document control on a major infrastructure, energy, or nuclear project.
- Existing proficiency in Asite EDMS or an equivalent major project Common Data Environment.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or providing procedural leadership to Document Controllers.
- Experience supporting information management audits, accreditation activities, or regulatory compliance reviews.
- Problem solving and logic-based troubleshooting skills applicable to EDMS configuration, workflow issues, and metadata quality.
- Familiarity with Building Information Modelling (BIM) environments and supplementary digital records management tools (e.g. SharePoint, Power BI).
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse, multi-disciplinary project teams and supply chain partners.
