Introduction
MECOPP is Scotland’s leading Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) carers’ organisation providing a range of care and support services to carers from a range of BME and other marginalised communities.
The postholder will join a highly experienced team currently delivering a range of services to Scotland’s Gypsy/Traveller community including carer support, health and community-based arts. This position will play a part in extending our current Children & Families Mental Health Service producing an era of service with an additional focus on culturally appropriate pathways and destinations.
This service is funded through the National Lottery and will contribute to increasing opportunities, improving outcomes and reducing inequalities through targeted and to a degree national support. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Youth Work principles and an understanding of the impact of additional factors such as age, race, class and mental health on life chances and opportunities.
The post will entail significant travel, within the funding period identified areas inc; Ayrshire & Arran, Edinburgh & Lothians, Scottish Borders and Fife.
Specific Tasks and Activities
1. Support young people (& Carer/families) to identify their strengths, needs and goals through participative youth work.
2. Deliver tailored one-to-one and group support, including informal learning and skills development.
3. Work with schools, youth services and partners to create accessible support and learning opportunities.
4. Support young people to build confidence, voice and leadership through youth-led activity.
5. Build links with local stakeholders to improve opportunities and support for young people and families.
6. Monitor and evaluate youth work activities, capturing participation, learning and wellbeing outcomes.
7. Plan and deliver youth-focused workshops, sessions and activities with the wider team.
8. Complete youth work project administration, including planning, recording, monitoring and safeguarding records.
9. Support reporting and funder communication, ensuring youth work outcomes and young people’s voices are reflected.
