We are seeking a Production Assistant (Summer Work) to join the Place and Economy Department, supporting the Planning team with applications, enquiries and research activities across Belfast.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience within a local government planning service while contributing to high-quality customer service and service delivery.
Your Duties:
- Assist Planning and Place officers in the processing of planning and related applications, including breaches of planning control.
- Support the preparation of reports and assist senior officers in forming planning recommendations.
- Respond to planning-related enquiries from members of the public, including advice on planning permission, via face-to-face contact, telephone, email and written correspondence.
- Undertake site visits across Belfast (using own transport where applicable) to record site information and research planning histories.
- Provide cover and support to Business Support Officers, particularly in relation to validation, consultation and publicity processes.
- Assist with research and studies linked to the preparation of the new development plan for the Belfast City Council area.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Planning Service.
- Carry out all duties in a manner that protects and enhances the reputation and public profile of Belfast City Council.
- Undertake any other relevant duties as required to support service delivery.
Your Profile:
Essential Qualifications:
Applicants must, by the closing date:
- Be studying towards a relevant third-level qualification (e.g. Planning, Property Development or equivalent).
AND
- Hold a full driving licence valid in Northern Ireland and have access to a vehicle for official business.
OR
- Have access to alternative transport that enables them to meet the requirements of the role (reasonable adjustments will be considered).
Experience:
- This post is suitable for candidates seeking experience to progress a career in planning.
- No formal work experience is essential; however, applicants should demonstrate an understanding of planning-related issues.
Additional Information:
- Full time, Temporary
- 37 hours per week, 3 days in office 2 days remote after initial training period.
