About On-Site Energy
At On-Site Energy, we work with energy-intensive manufacturers to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions through on-site generation, energy efficiency and infrastructure upgrades. We design, build, own and operate energy assets within live industrial environments, partnering closely with our clients to deliver commercially viable, long-term solutions.
We are technology agnostic and data-led - assessing each site individually and integrating technologies such as CHP, solar PV, heat pumps and wider efficiency upgrades to deliver the strongest commercial outcome.
The Role
Reporting to the VP Operations, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of multiple complex behind-the-meter energy projects within live industrial environments as part of our Project Management team.
You’ll become involved as projects move beyond initial concept into feasibility and detailed planning, taking responsibility through tender, construction, commissioning and operational handover. These projects are technically varied and commercially significant, often integrating multiple energy technologies within operational manufacturing sites.
Working closely with colleagues across Business Development, Solutions, Engineering, Construction and Asset Management, you’ll play a central role in turning commercially agreed opportunities into well-executed, long-term assets. You’ll have ownership of programme, delivery and client engagement, ensuring projects are practical, commercially sound and managed effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Project Ownership
- Take responsibility for multiple complex capital projects within live industrial or manufacturing environments, from detailed planning and tender through construction and operational handover
- Coordinate internal stakeholders across Business Development, Solutions, Engineering, Construction and Asset Management
- Manage tender processes and appointment of design and build contractors
- Oversee external design development to ensure alignment with programme, budget and site constraints
- Develop practical delivery plans that reflect live manufacturing environments
- Manage overall project performance across programme, cost and quality
- Ensure projects are properly scoped, resourced and compliant with CDM regulations prior to commencement
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients during project delivery
- Manage client expectations and maintain clear, consistent communication
- Maintain clear, accurate project information and reporting, ensuring key decisions, changes, risks and dependencies are visible to relevant stakeholders
Commercial & Risk Management
- Develop and maintain detailed project budgets, cashflow forecasts and cost reports
- Monitor financial performance against forecast and take corrective action where required
- Manage change control and variations to protect margin
- Understand contractual obligations and ensure delivery aligns with commercial commitments
- Maintain appropriate contingency and manage cost risk proactively
- Identify delivery or commercial risks early and escalate where necessary
- Understand how programme and cost decisions affect long-term asset performance
Delivery Planning
- Coordinate engineering, construction and asset teams to ensure plans are aligned before works begin
- Sense-check drawings, layouts and technical assumptions developed by internal Solutions/Engineering teams and contractors, constructively challenging where necessary to ensure proposals are practical, commercially sound and deliverable within live manufacturing sites
- Constructively challenge programme assumptions, site access, phasing and outage planning where necessary
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Engineering background (Mechanical, Electrical, Process or similar)
- Experience delivering complex capital projects typically in excess of £5m within live industrial or manufacturing environments, managing multiple projects concurrently
- Proven experience operating across detailed planning, construction and commissioning phases
- Competent in reviewing drawings, layouts and technical assumptions from internal and external technical teams, with the confidence to challenge where something doesn’t look right
- Strong understanding of multi-disciplinary system integration within operational sites
- Strong commercial awareness, including budget control, cost forecasting and change management within live projects
- Experience managing contractors and supply chain performance within capital projects
- Experience running tender processes and appointing external contractors
- Experience working with complex client organisations and multiple stakeholders
- Strong risk awareness and the ability to anticipate and manage delivery challenges
- Clear and credible communicator, confident in client-facing environments
- Able to operate with a high degree of autonomy, using sound judgement and escalating issues appropriately
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to UK sites
Desirable
- Experience in behind-the-meter energy technologies (e.g. CHP, solar PV, heat recovery, heat pumps)
- Experience working within an asset owner/operator or performance-based contract model
- Familiarity with grid connection or industrial utilities integration
We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive team and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. If you need any reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know.
