Reports to: Head of Business Development
Salary: £33,000 P/A
Role Overview:
The Business Development Representative is a key role responsible for driving new business opportunities through proactive lead generation within targeted market sectors.
Operating primarily from the office, the role focuses on generating, qualifying, and securing high-quality meetings for the Directors to convert into sales opportunities.
You'll be the friendly face of Benholm, reaching out to potential clients, researching new opportunities, and creating that crucial first connection. Think of yourself as the bridge between our incredible services and the businesses that could benefit from them.
Success in this position requires a highly motivated, target-driven individual with strong communication skills and a resilience to achieve both activity and output-based objectives.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead Generation & Opportunity Development
- Proactively identify and research new business opportunities across targeted sectors throughout the UK.
- Connect with key decision-makers to introduce Benholm and uncover potential opportunities.
- Take an inquisitive approach to understanding where Benholm’s services could add value.
- Support the growth of our UK-wide network, including developing relationships and opportunities in London.
Lead Qualification
- Engage with prospects to understand their needs, interests, and potential fit with Benholm’s services.
- Qualify opportunities against agreed criteria before passing them to the sales team.
- Record accurate and detailed prospect information in the CRM.
Appointment Setting & Networking
- Book qualified appointments, introductory meetings, and opportunities for the sales team and Directors.
- Build relationships through professional outreach, networking, and consistent follow-up.
- Provide clear handovers so the sales team can progress specifications, quotations, and proposals.
Opportunity Creation & Sales Support
- This is a lead generation role rather than a traditional sales role. It requires someone who enjoys connecting with people, asking the right questions, and taking a genuinely inquisitive approach to uncovering opportunities wherever they may exist.
- Focus on identifying opportunities to quote rather than closing sales directly.
- Maintain a consistent, organised approach to calls, conversations, follow-ups, appointment booking, and networking.
- Work as a key part of the wider business development team, helping create opportunities that can be progressed by others.
- Once opportunities are qualified, they are handed over to the sales team, who will manage specifications, quotations, and closing the deals.
Role Fit
- This role would not be suited to someone primarily motivated by closing orders, chasing personal revenue bonuses, or needing the buzz of a direct sales environment.
- It would be ideal for someone who is motivated by opening doors, building relationships, uncovering opportunities, and supporting the success of the wider team.
- Whilst this role is an office- based position, there may be opportunities to go out to visit clients, attend networking events, etc.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Achieve agreed targets for qualified leads, appointments booked, and opportunities identified.
- Review activity and outcomes to improve approach, messaging, and results.
Reporting & CRM
- Keep CRM records accurate, complete, and up to date.
- Report on activity, pipeline development, and opportunities uncovered.
- Share market feedback, trends, and insights that may support future business development.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Number of connected calls/conversations (Meaningful Sales Interactions/MSIs)
- Number of qualified leads generated
- Value and quality of pipeline created
- Number of meetings booked for Directors
What We're Looking for Essential:
· Proven experience in telesales, telemarketing, or internal sales roles

·
