Job purpose
To manage a caseload of litigated and non-litigated personal injury claims (RTA, EL and OL) with a value of up to £25,000 - £500,000, ensuring each case is progressed efficiently from initial instruction through to resolution.
This role will also allow the candidate to provide support and knowledge to the serious injury/complex legal team within the firm.
To report directly to the head of serious injury within the firm.
Key Responsibilities
- To efficiently run a case load which are litigated and non – litigated personal injury claims with a value of up to £100,000, efficiently, proactively and profitably,
- Ensure that our clients receive excellent client care.
- To instruct appropriate expert medical experts
- To issue Court proceedings using the DCP.
- Attend conferences, hearings and CMC’s with Counsel if necessary.
- Home visits the take instructions and to advise clients who are seriously injured.
- Experience in dealing with fatal accidents (desirable but not essential)
- Providing expert legal advice to clients in relation to the claim process, litigation risk and costs where appropriate.
- Compliance with professional conduct rules and follow our internal policies and procedures.
- Prioritise Court directions ensuring all directions are complied with in a timely manner.
- Experience with cost budgeting (desirable but not essential)
- Ensuring that good client relationships are maintained and keeping clients up-to-date generally and with case progression
- Working with opponents and other third parties where appropriate to achieve positive outcomes.
- Check the authenticity and validity of claims by carrying out due diligence.
- Working and assisting the directors of the firm and senior management for the benefit of the firm
- Continually risk assess cases where prospects of success fall below 51%.
- Ensure that any relevant insurer is kept updated and fully informed as to the progress of any claims.
- Discuss liability and/or quantum offers with the relevant parties, making use of the telephone rather than letters whenever possible.
- Prioritise incoming daily post/emails and dealing with anything needing urgent attention while the remainder of the post is dealt with expeditiously and in order of importance and productivity
- May be required to act as an authorised person if requested.
Experience & Knowledge
- A Solicitor or CILEx Lawyer with litigation rights / working toward obtaining.
- Experience of running your own claimant intermediate track case load or assisting a senior member of the team with similar work.
- Experience of working to a fee target and/or settlement targets.
- A willingness to be involved in the mentoring and development of colleagues.
- Have a good working knowledge of the CPR and relevant case law/legislation.
- Excellent client care skills.
- Good communication skills written and oral.
- Good IT skills with a sound working knowledge of Proclaim or a similar case management systems.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
