Silva Road T/A Ola's Takeaway is a growing Afro-Nigerian street food business serving authentic Nigerian favourites including Jollof Rice, Suya, Fried Plantain, Puff Puff and traditional stews. Following successful home catering and event trading, we are expanding our operations and are looking for an experienced and passionate Cook to join our team.
The Role
We are seeking a reliable and organised Cook who can prepare high-quality food consistently while maintaining excellent food hygiene and kitchen standards.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in African cuisine, takeaway kitchens, catering, food trucks or commercial kitchens.
Key ResponsibilitiesFood Preparation & Cooking
- Prepare and cook menu items to company recipes and standards
- Prepare rice, stews, proteins, suya and side dishes
- Ensure food is consistently presented and portioned correctly
- Monitor food quality and freshness throughout service
- Assist with menu development and new product ideas
Kitchen Operations
- Manage daily food preparation and production schedules
- Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained
- Minimise food waste
- Monitor ingredient usage and report shortages
- Assist with ordering and stock rotation
Food Safety & Compliance
- Maintain high food hygiene standards at all times
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety Regulations
- Complete daily cleaning schedules
- Maintain temperature records and food safety documentation
- Ensure safe storage and handling of all food products
Team Support
- Support and guide food trailer team members
- Assist with training new staff
- Help maintain a positive and productive working environment
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Cook, Chef, Kitchen Supervisor or Catering Assistant
- Good understanding of food hygiene and food safety practices
- Ability to work efficiently during busy service periods
- Excellent organisational skills
- Reliable and punctual
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Experience preparing Nigerian or African cuisine
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
- Experience working in a takeaway, food truck, catering business or restaurant
- Stock management experience
Working Hours
- Full-time position
- Approximately 35–45 hours per week
- Weekend availability required
- Flexibility during busy trading periods and events
