About the role:
We are looking for an experienced and technically minded Underfloor Heating CAD Designer to join our growing team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate, professional CAD drawings and heating layouts for underfloor heating systems across residential and commercial projects. You will work from architectural drawings, floor plans and technical information to develop practical UFH designs that can be installed efficiently on site.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong CAD skills who also understands heating systems, floor construction and the practical requirements of underfloor heating installation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Produce detailed underfloor heating CAD layouts from architectural and construction drawings.
* Design UFH pipe layouts, including:
* Pipe spacing and zoning
* Circuit layouts
* Manifold locations
* Flow and return arrangements
* Pipe lengths and circuit balancing
* Heating zones and room controls
* Interpret architectural drawings, floor plans, elevations and construction details.
* Ensure UFH layouts comply with relevant design standards, manufacturer requirements and project specifications.
* Calculate and check circuit lengths, heat requirements and system capacity where required.
* Coordinate UFH designs with other building services, including plumbing, electrical services, structural elements and mechanical systems.
* Identify potential installation issues before drawings are issued to site.
* Produce clear and accurate installation drawings for installers.
* Revise drawings in response to architectural or construction changes.
* Maintain accurate drawing registers and revision control.
* Liaise with project managers, engineers, contractors, architects and installers.
* Provide technical support to the installation team when required.
* Review completed designs to ensure they are practical, cost-effective and installable.
* Assist with take-offs and material requirements where required.
* Ensure drawings are produced to a consistently high professional standard.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience using AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software.
* Previous experience designing underfloor heating systems is highly desirable.
* Good understanding of UFH pipe layouts, manifolds, zoning and circuit design.
* Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings.
* Strong understanding of building construction and floor build-ups.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to work accurately to deadlines.
* Strong communication and organisational skills.
* Ability to identify practical problems within a design before they reach site.
* Comfortable working independently and as part of a wider technical team.
Desirable Experience
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
* AutoCAD
* Revit / BIM
* Heat-loss calculations
* MEP design
* Domestic and commercial UFH systems
* Heat pumps
* Screeded and suspended floor systems
* Manifold and control systems
* Radiant heating systems
* Building Regulations and relevant British Standards
* Manufacturer-specific UFH design software
* Producing installation and as-built drawings
The Ideal Candidate
