Falcon Foodservice Equipment designs and manufactures professional cooking equipment in Stirling. We are recruiting a gas-development specialist to join Falcon Lab and take a leading role in the safe development, verification and certification of our gas-fired commercial catering appliances.
You will combine hands-on combustion engineering with product-certification ownership. Your support Falcon’s current BSI Gas Appliances Regulation recertification programme, building robust technical evidence, resolving engineering queries and helping our certified product portfolio move through review in a controlled and timely way.
Beyond recertification, you will shape gas design rules, test methods and technical governance for future products and lifecycle changes. You will be trusted to make evidence-based recommendations, challenge weak assumptions and develop the capability of colleagues across the team.
What you will do
- Lead assigned BSI recertification work packages, from standards gap review and product-family mapping through testing, technical-file updates, query resolution and action closure.
- Develop and validate burners, gas trains, ignition and flame-supervision systems, ventilation/flue arrangements, safety devices and associated controls.
- Define acceptance criteria and run practical tests covering combustion, emissions, temperatures, gas rate, flame stability, ignition, shutdown and abnormal conditions.
- Create and review clear, audit-ready evidence including risk assessments, test plans, reports, drawings, critical-component data, instructions and controlled change records.
- Assess component substitutions, cost-down proposals and product variants for performance, safety and certification impact.
- Lead structured root-cause investigations and turn findings into verified corrective action and improved design/test practice.
- Work closely with Laboratory, Design, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Technical Services, BSI, suppliers and test laboratories.
- Coach colleagues, conduct peer reviews and help strengthen Falcon Lab’s long-term gas and combustion competence.
What you will bring
- Substantial experience developing gas-fired appliances, burners, boilers, heating/cooking products or comparable regulated combustion equipment.
- A strong practical grasp of combustion, gas/air delivery, ignition, flame supervision, ventilation, emissions, safety controls and instrumentation.
- Experience supporting product verification and third-party certification, conformity assessment or approval in a regulated engineering environment.
- The ability to move confidently between prototype testing, data analysis, engineering decisions and disciplined technical documentation.
- Sound judgement, structured problem solving and the confidence to engage constructively with external assessors and senior stakeholders.
- A degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship or equivalent depth of relevant industrial experience.
Especially useful
Knowledge of GAR and EN 203; previous work with BSI or another product-certification body; commercial catering gas competence; LPG/multiple gas-family testing; emissions measurement; CFD or thermal/airflow modelling; electrical controls, EMC/LVD interfaces or connected-product development; coaching or technical-authority experience.
Why join Falcon?
- Own visible, business-critical work with a direct impact on product continuity and future development.
- Work hands-on with real products in an established development laboratory and UK manufacturing environment.
- Influence design standards, test capability and certification governance rather than simply inherit them.
- Collaborate across the full product lifecycle, from concept and prototype to production, field learning and portfolio recertification.
- Build a long-term technical-specialist career in combustion, compliance and commercial catering equipment.
