Medical Receptionist / Administrator
Chigwell Medical Centre | Ilford, Essex
24–34 hours per week (with flexibility to work additional hours when required).
Chigwell Medical Centre is looking for a caring, organised, and proactive Medical Receptionist/Administrator to join our busy GP practice.
As the first point of contact for our patients, you'll play a vital role in creating a positive experience while supporting our clinical team to deliver high-quality patient care. This is a varied role that combines reception duties with administrative responsibilities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Working Hours:
24–34 hours per week
Monday to Friday only
Shifts scheduled between 8:00am and 6:30pm
Flexibility to provide additional cover for annual leave and sickness is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcoming patients and providing a professional front-of-house reception service
- Answering a high volume of telephone calls and responding to patient enquiries
- Booking, amending and cancelling appointments using the clinical system
- Processing repeat prescription requests
- Managing incoming clinical correspondence, hospital letters and discharge summaries
- Registering new patients and updating patient records accurately
- Liaising with GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with GDPR and practice policies
- Providing general administrative support to the wider practice team

Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in an administrative or customer service role
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good IT skills and accurate data entry
- Ability to work in a confidential environment
Desirable
- Previous experience in a GP practice, NHS or healthcare setting
- Experience using SystmOne
- Understanding of primary care services
