About Us
At the RSPCA Leeds, Wakefield & District Branch, animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do. Our core mission is clear: "When an animal needs care, we provide it a place to heal; when they need a home, we find them a loving family."
To support our long-term resilience, we are opening a high-quality Private Boarding Establishment alongside our core rescue services, with all boarding profits directly funding our vital rehabilitation work.
The Role
We are looking for a dedicated and proactive Animal Care Assistant to join our unified team. Working dynamically across our multi-species site, you will care for cats and dogs—handling a diverse mix of both rescue animals and private boarding guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Care & Hygiene: Clean and maintain animal accommodation for cats, dogs, and small animals to strict RSPCA standards, and prepare appropriate food and water for all animals.
- Health & Welfare: Perform regular health checks, monitor stress indicators, and administer prescribed medical treatments as directed by our consulting Veterinary Surgeon.
- Exercise & Enrichment: Provide essential exercise, socialization, grooming, and personalized behavioral enrichment tailored to each animal's individual needs.
- Rehabilitation & Rehoming: Take an active role in helping rehabilitate animals most in need and finding them loving families.
- PBE Guest Management: Conduct specific check-in/check-out health checks, provide premium care for boarding pets, and maintain accurate operational and welfare records.
- Public & Team Collaboration: Work closely with staff and volunteers, communicate professionally with members of the public, and send reassuring daily updates and photos to private boarding owners.
Who We Are Looking For
Mindset and character are far more important to us than technical qualifications. While animal related qualifications and prior experience in a professional animal environment is ideal, full training will be provided.
We are seeking individuals who embody:
- A Drive to Help Animals in Need: A genuine passion for welfare and a motivation to help our centre rehabilitate and rehome vulnerable animals.
- Willingness to Adapt: Comfort shifting priorities easily across a fast-paced environment caring for both rescue and boarding animals.
- Strong Sense of Initiative: A proactive self-starter who can work independently, spot what needs to be done, and maintain exceptional standards.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Empathy and clarity when collaborating with teammates and representing the RSPCA to the public.
Please note that we reserve the right to close this vacancy early if sufficient applications are received, so early applications are encouraged.
