Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.
Your next role
The Cleaner (voids) role will deliver routine cleaning across Council-owned land and properties. The postholder will visit a number of council-owned properties to carry out cleaning duties.
What You'll Do
This role involves carrying out a range of cleaning, primarily preparing empty properties after void works to give tenants the best experience of moving into their new home. But depending on capacity, you may support colleagues maintaining hygiene and safety in communal areas like corridors, lounges, kitchens, and laundry rooms for elderly or vulnerable residents, performing tasks like dusting, sweeping, mopping, and deep cleaning to create a welcoming, hazard-free environment.
Our cleaning teams work directly in residential areas in Sheltered Housing schemes, Supported Housing schemes and Void properties, providing a reliable and customer-focused service, while following council policies, health and safety regulations, and safeguarding procedures. They maintain accurate records of work completed and contribute to maintaining decent living standards across the council’s housing stock.
The role also requires effective tenant engagement, robust risk management, and a commitment to continuous improvement to safeguard residents, colleagues, and the wider community. You will:
- Carry out cleaning duties across our social housing properties as directed.
- Carry out cleaning in void properties: Deep cleaning and clearance of empty council homes before new tenants move in.
- To include routine cleaning such as moping, dusting, window cleaning, removal of rubbish sanitizing, and deep cleaning kitchen equipment.
- May include graffiti removal, decontamination, or needle sweeps.
What You'll Bring
- Knowledge and experience of health and safety at work especially manual handling at work, COSHH and PPE.
- Demonstrate knowledge of participating in good practices i.e. Health & Safety.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
The ability to travel throughout the Borough will be required and access to a vehicle to be able to support sessions and events around the town and carry out inspections.
You will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check
