Introduction to Wycombe District Swimming Club
As the leading Club programme with Swim England Performance Centre status and located in the South of England; we are reigning County Champions, Southeast Regional Champions and regularly feature in the National Arena League Cup Final.
Wycombe is an exciting, evolving and dynamic club offering a wide programme using a “one team” approach. The club is a registered limited company and charity with a diverse offering in the community from performance/competitive swimming and masters’ swimmers through to Development and Fitness squads with an exciting new competitive Water Polo squad.
Since 2012 the club has more than tripled in size resulting in more than 750 active swimming members. At the start of 2016 WDSC moved to the then new 8x50m pool in Wycombe. The club continues to grow working closely with the local community and local learn to swim programmes.
THE WYCOMBE SWIM ACADEMY at RGS School Pool
Having expanded our Stroke Improver offering in 2023, we now provide weekly sessions focusing on kick, body position and technique within the main fundamentals of each stroke – taking swimmers into a new journey through the more competitive side of swimming. We run this section of the club at the newly refurbished pool at the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe
About the Role
The primary role of the RGS Swim Teacher is to provide teaching expertise to the club’s academy which includes (but not limited to) the following;
· Teach on poolside at Royal Grammar School Pool
· Be responsible for delivering the scheme of work to the swimmers / members in each session
· Regularly evaluate the level of the swimmers in each group and notify the Head of Academy if any swimmers need to change squad to ensure a constant and dynamic progression for all swimmers
· Work in conjunction with the Head of Academy to ensure the smooth running of the sessions on a weekly basis, alerting the Head of Academy of any issues that arise. This could be teacher, parent or swimmer related.
· Introduce and evaluate swimmers on a programmed schedule for awards with the help of the Head of Academy
· Ensure that all sessions are run with the WDSC values in place and adhere to the ‘Wycombe Way’
· Work with the Head of Academy if required to assess new trial swimmers wishing to join the RGS Swim Academy and identify a good fit for them within one of the groups
· Attend any mini gala events that are organised
· Oversee the Junior Volunteer Poolside Helpers (Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme) and ensure they work under your direction and assist you wherever needed whilst setting a good example for the club
