Job Purpose
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Catering Assistant to join our school catering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing fresh sandwiches and salads to a high standard, managing their own preparation section, and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of our school catering service. This role requires excellent organisation, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a busy team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare fresh sandwiches, wraps, salads, and other cold food items in line with company recipes and food safety standards.
- Take ownership of the salad and sandwich preparation section, ensuring it is organised, clean, and fully stocked.
- Monitor stock levels and place orders for ingredients and supplies as required.
- Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and portion control.
- Follow all food hygiene, health and safety, and allergen procedures.
- Serve food to students and staff at one of our school catering locations, providing friendly and efficient customer service.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of the wider catering team.
- Assist with general kitchen duties, including cleaning workstations, washing up, and maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen environment.
- Help with setting up and clearing down service areas before and after meal service.
- Support colleagues with additional catering duties when required.
Skills and ExperienceEssential
- Previous experience in a catering, food preparation, or hospitality environment.
- Ability to prepare food accurately and efficiently.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A positive, reliable, and flexible attitude.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and food safety practices.
Desirable
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above).
- Experience working in a school or large-scale catering environment.

Working Hours
9am-2:30pm Term time only.
