Children's Residential Support Worker (Waking Nights)
Paragon Social Care is recruiting a compassionate, resilient and dedicated Children's Residential Support Worker (Waking Nights) to join our specialist residential childcare team.
This role is ideal for experienced Residential Childcare Workers, Children's Support Workers, Residential Care Workers, Therapeutic Support Workers, Young People's Support Workers, Care Practitioners, Youth Workers, Residential Childcare Practitioners, EBD Support Workers and SEMH Support Workers who are passionate about helping children and young people thrive.
Working within a children's residential home, you will provide overnight care, emotional support, safeguarding and supervision for children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), trauma backgrounds and complex needs.
As a Waking Night Residential Support Worker, you will remain awake throughout your shift, ensuring the home is safe, secure and nurturing while supporting young people during the night.
About the Role
As part of our residential childcare team, you will:
- Deliver high-quality residential childcare in line with Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
- Safeguard children and young people at all times.
- Promote positive relationships, resilience and independence.
- Provide emotional support, reassurance and therapeutic care throughout the night.
- Maintain a safe, stable and nurturing home environment.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, managers and external professionals.
- Support individual care plans, behaviour support plans and risk assessments.
- Ensure accurate recording and reporting using care documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overnight care and supervision for children and young people.
- Remain awake and vigilant throughout every waking night shift.
- Complete regular welfare observations and bedroom checks.
- Respond professionally to incidents, safeguarding concerns or emergencies.
- Support children experiencing anxiety, distress or disrupted sleep.
- Promote positive behaviour using trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.
- Maintain professional boundaries while building positive relationships.
- Complete detailed daily logs, incident reports and handover notes.
- Conduct health and safety, fire safety and security checks.
- Complete light household duties to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming home.
- Support morning routines where required.
- Work in accordance with safeguarding legislation, children's home regulations and company policies.

Applicants should ideally have:
- Experience supporting children, young people or vulnerable individuals.
- Experience in residential childcare, supported accommodation, fostering, education, social care or youth work.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and professional boundaries.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure.
- A compassionate, patient and resilient approach.
- The ability to work independently during waking night shifts.
- A full UK Driving Licence (required).
Desirable
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it).
- Experience supporting children with trauma, attachment difficulties, ADHD, autism, SEMH or EBD.
- Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), trauma-informed practice, de-escalation and restorative approaches.
- Medication administration experience.
- First Aid training.
