An established and growing business based in Middlesbrough is seeking an experienced Credit Controller to join its busy and expanding finance team.
This role is ideal for a proactive and organised individual who enjoys building relationships, resolving queries and ensuring payments are collected in line with agreed terms. You'll take ownership of a portfolio of customer accounts, helping to maintain strong cash flow while delivering excellent customer service.
- Manage a portfolio of customer accounts, ensuring payments are received in line with agreed payment terms.

Contact customers regarding overdue balances to secure payment, agree payment dates or establish reasons for non-payment.

Monitor and follow up on payment promises, escalating where necessary.

Build and maintain positive customer relationships whilst ensuring effective debt recovery.
- Accurately record customer disputes and payment issues.

Liaise with internal departments to investigate and resolve queries that may delay payment.

Keep customers updated on progress and maintain clear communication throughout the resolution process.

Escalate longstanding or complex issues where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, promises and outcomes.

Ensure customer accounts are up to date and transactionally accurate.

Assist with the management and allocation of cash receipts.

Support the preparation and issue of collection letters and other account-related correspondence.
- Identify and report potential credit risks or changes in customer payment behaviour.

Support efforts to minimise bad debt exposure.

Escalate concerns quickly to management where necessary.
- Previous experience within a Credit Control or Accounts Receivable role.

Experience managing customer accounts and collecting overdue payments.

Proven ability to resolve account queries and payment disputes.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Ability to build relationships with customers at all levels.

Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills.

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.

Experience using accounting or ERP systems would be advantageous.
