Warehouse & Showroom Assistant (Carpets & Flooring)

Hereward Carpets is a long-established, independent carpet stockist that has been serving customers since 1990. We pride ourselves on offering excellent value, friendly service and a huge range of carpets and flooring, all held in stock and ready to take away.
We're looking for a reliable, hardworking person to join our small, friendly team in a varied role that combines warehouse duties with occasional showroom assistance.
This is a hands-on position where you'll play an important part in ensuring our customers receive the excellent service we're known for. As you gain experience, there will be opportunities to develop your product knowledge, customer service skills and take on additional responsibilities within the business.
What You'll Be Doing
Your duties will include:
- Unloading deliveries of carpets and flooring from suppliers.
- Cutting carpets, vinyl and other flooring to customer measurements.
- Moving, lifting and storing carpet rolls and flooring safely.
- Preparing customer orders for collection and delivery.
- Keeping the warehouse and showroom clean, tidy and well organised.
- Assisting customers with loading purchases into their vehicles.
- Occasionally assisting with local deliveries and supporting our carpet fitters.
- Providing friendly assistance to customers in the showroom when required.
- Working closely with colleagues to ensure everything runs smoothly.
A Typical Day
No two days are the same, but your day might include unloading a delivery first thing in the morning, cutting carpets for customer orders, organising stock in the warehouse, helping a customer load their new carpet into their car, and assisting a colleague with a showroom enquiry. Every day brings a mixture of practical work, teamwork and customer interaction.
What We're Looking For
You'll be someone who:
- Enjoys practical, hands-on work.
- Is physically fit and comfortable with regular manual handling.
- Is reliable, punctual and has a positive attitude.
- Takes pride in doing a job properly.
- Can work well on your own as well as part of a small team.
- Is willing to learn new skills and take on different tasks.
- Communicates well with both colleagues and customers.
Previous flooring experience would be an advantage but is not essential. Full training will be provided to the right person.
A full UK driving licence would also be beneficial, but is not essential.
Please Note
This is a physically demanding role. It involves regular lifting, carrying and moving carpet rolls, as well as cutting room-sized pieces of flooring. We have lifting equipment to assist with larger rolls, but manual handling is an important part of the job.
