About Our Provision
Free 2 Learn is a dedicated Alternative Provision supporting young people aged 11–16 who have disengaged from mainstream education. Many of our students face complex social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. We offer a nurturing, structured environment designed to rebuild trust in education, develop life skills, and pave positive pathways for the future.
Role Purpose
We are looking for a passionate Level 3 Youth Mentor to act as a consistent, positive role model for students who find mainstream school environments challenging. While previous experience in an Alternative Provision is not required, you must have a solid background in youth mentoring or community youth work. We will provide all the specialist education-setting training you need; we just need your passion, relationship-building skills, and dedication to changing young lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Targeted Interventions: Deliver daily 1:1 and small-group mentoring sessions focused on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and self-esteem.
- Classroom Integration: Support students directly within our small classrooms to help them maintain focus, manage triggers, and de-escalate challenging behavior.
- Transferable Skill Application: Bring your community or youth club mentoring skills into our setting to build trust and rapport with disaffected youth.
- Re-Integration Support: Help students prepare for transition phases, whether returning to mainstream school, moving to further education, or entering training.
- Progress Tracking: Maintain detailed, confidential daily logs tracking behavioral trends, emotional progress, and intervention outcomes.
- Parent & Agency Liaison: Maintain regular communication with parents/carers and external support teams, including social care.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Essential Qualification: Level 3 qualification in Youth Work, Advice and Guidance, Supporting Teaching and Learning, or an equivalent discipline.
- Youth Work Experience: Proven history of working as a Youth Mentor, Youth Worker, or Community Support Worker with vulnerable or challenging young people.
- Transferable Skills: Exceptional ability to build quick rapport, establish firm boundaries, and maintain a non-judgmental approach.
- Mindset: Exceptionally resilient, empathetic, patient, and thick-skinned, with a genuine passion for supporting youth who have faced barriers to success.
- Compliance: Full compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidelines, including an Enhanced DBS check with children's barred list check. [1]
