About us
D.C. Merrett & Co. Ltd is a well-established, family-run business based south of Gloucester, delivering specialist services in abnormal load heavy haulage, wastewater logistics, and commercial engineering. For over 30 years, we have built our reputation on reliability, expertise, and exceptional customer service. Our commitment to quality, investment in our fleet, and dedication to our people have made us a trusted name within the industries we serve.
What we are looking for
We're looking for a skilled Commercial Vehicle Engineer to join our experienced workshop team. This hands-on role offers a variety of work, from routine servicing and inspections to fault finding, repairs, and breakdown support, both in the workshop and on-site.
Unlike a typical workshop environment, much of our fleet is far from factory standard. From specialist heavy haulage tractor units to bespoke trailers and equipment, our vehicles are purpose-built for demanding operations and regularly feature custom engineering solutions.
Our reputation is built on reliability. As well as maintaining our own specialist fleet, we provide trusted maintenance support to external operators who rely on us to keep their vehicles moving. If you take pride in delivering high-quality workmanship and enjoy solving problems, you'll fit right in.
What you’ll be doing
- Maintaining, servicing, and repairing a diverse fleet of specialist commercial vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
- Working on bespoke heavy haulage tractor units and non-standard engineering solutions.
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs to minimise downtime.
- Responding to breakdowns and providing reliable support both in the workshop and on-site.
- Supporting external customers who trust us to keep their vehicles safe, compliant, and operational.
- Delivering high standards of workmanship, safety, and attention to detail.
- Working independently and as part of a skilled, supportive engineering team.
Why You’ll succeed here
- You'll enjoy working on specialist, non-standard vehicles and equipment rather than routine dealership work.
- You'll take pride in solving mechanical challenges and finding practical solutions.
- You'll be adaptable, keen to learn, and motivated by a role where no two days are the same.
- You'll value being part of a close-knit, family-run business where your contribution genuinely matters.
Requirements
- NVQ Level 2 or above in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent qualification/experience).
- A minimum of 3 years' experience working on commercial vehicles, HGVs, trailers, or specialist equipment.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills with the ability to work independently when required.
- A proactive approach to maintenance, with a commitment to delivering high standards of workmanship.
- Willingness to attend breakdowns and work both in the workshop and on-site.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while taking ownership of your own workload.
- A full UK driving licence.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a company that values skill, dedication, and teamwork. In return for your expertise, you'll enjoy varied and rewarding work, a supportive working environment, and the chance to work on some of the most specialist vehicles and equipment in the industry. Apply today and become part of the D.C. Merrett & Co. Ltd team.
