Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday (including Bank Holidays as required)
Location: Based at Ground Up HQ, with regular travel to properties and client sites as required
Salary: £35,000 per annum
Holiday Entitlement: 28 days (including Bank Holidays)

Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, resourceful Maintenance Operative to take responsibility for on-site works across residential properties. This role is ideal for a multi-skilled tradesperson with strong plastering and renovation experience who can lead smaller projects from start to finish while maintaining high workmanship standards.
You will be the go-to person on site — ensuring quality delivery, coordinating trades where required, and maintaining professional client communication.
Key Responsibilities
On-Site Delivery
- Carry out a wide range of maintenance and refurbishment works.
- Lead property renovation projects including full room or house refurbishments.
- Undertake high-quality plastering (patch repairs, skimming, bonding, float & set).
- Complete carpentry, minor plumbing, tiling, decorating, and general building works.
- Diagnose issues and propose practical, cost-effective solutions.
Project Coordination
- Oversee day-to-day site activities.
- Manage subcontractors where required.
- Ensure materials are ordered in advance and used efficiently.
- Keep projects on programme and within agreed scope.
- Provide progress updates to management.
Renovation & Refurbishment
- Strip-out and preparation works.
- Kitchen and bathroom refurbishments.
- Flooring installations.
- Internal structural alterations (where appropriate and within competence).
- Snagging and finishing to a high standard.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure works comply with current building regulations.
- Maintain a safe and tidy working environment.
- Complete necessary site documentation.
- Adhere to health & safety requirements at all times.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in property maintenance or house renovations.
- Strong plastering experience (essential).
- Broad multi-trade capability.
- Experience leading jobs on-site independently.
- Ability to read and interpret job specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Own tools and transport.
Desirable Skills
- Experience managing small teams.
- Knowledge of compliance requirements (fire stopping, basic electrical/plumbing awareness).
- Ability to quote small works where required.
- Experience working in occupied properties.
- Basic IT literacy (job management systems / reporting apps).
