Farnham Maltings is looking to recruit an experienced Theatre Technician to join our lively and busy Technical team on a 15 hour per week contract. This role works closely with our Technical Manager and Deputy Technical Managers who are responsible for the delivery of sound, lighting, and other technical services for a wide range of performances and events at Farnham Maltings.

Line Manager: Technical Manager
Contract: Permanent Part-time of 15 hours per week including evenings and weekends.
Rate of Pay: £13.71 per hour

Objectives and Responsibilities
· Work independently or as part of a team to set up, operate, and programme lighting, sound, and AV equipment for events at Farnham Maltings.
- Occasionally, to be the lead technician on shows and events.
· Offer guidance to casual technical staff when required.
- Provide the highest standards of technical support for incoming shows and events
- Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness in the performance areas, ensuring that these areas are kept secure, and the equipment is properly stored.
- Ensure that technical, stage and projection equipment is safely operated and maintained, any defective equipment is taken out of service, labelled appropriately, and any defects or problems reported to the technical manager.
- Undertake any routine repair and maintenance work as required.
- Be aware of current health & safety legislation and ensure that statutory, licence and fire regulations are adhered to.
- Help maintain a proper record of all stock & equipment, ensuring that no property leaves Farnham Maltings without the consent of the Operations and Technical Managers, and items are returned correctly after use.
- Work alongside other departments and be helpful and accommodating with any reasonable tasks.

Essential Qualifications and Skills
Experience
- Technician with at least a year’s experience working in similar environment, or 3 years education in technical theatre or similar.
- Experience in and knowledge of programming lights for theatre and events.
- Knowledge of running sound for events and theatre
- Experience working within an arts, events, venue, hospitality or customer-facing organisation
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Maintenance and repair of equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot and fix simple lighting and sound systems
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications
- Capable of carrying out the manual handling requirements of the role, including lifting and moving equipment/materials in accordance with safe working practices
- Capable of performing tasks at height where required, using appropriate equipment and adhering to health and safety procedures
Desirable
- Knowledge of ETC lighting systems
- Ability to program Eos family lighting consoles, knowledge of digital sound desks also desirable. (Midas and Behringer)
- Formal qualification in Technical Theatre or similar
- PAT testing qualification or previous experience in PAT electrical testing
- Tallescope training
- Experience using Artifax or similar booking systems
- Understanding of venue operations or event administration
