About the role
Join Balfour Beatty's Power Transmission & Distribution business and help deliver some of the UK's most critical electricity infrastructure projects.
As an Assistant Site Engineer (OHL), you will play a key role in supporting the safe and successful delivery of overhead line (OHL) projects across National Grid's growing portfolio and the increasing demand on our ZLA programme in Derby.
What you'll be doing
- Supporting the delivery of OHL construction activities from planning through to completion.
- Assisting Construction Managers and Project Managers with day-to-day site operations.
- Monitoring works to ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
- Maintaining accurate project records, daily diaries and progress reports.
- Supporting subcontractor management and coordinating site activities.
- Assisting with resource planning, procurement and material management.
- Helping monitor programme performance and progress against project milestones.
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Contributing to project reviews and stakeholder reporting.
- Promoting Balfour Beatty's Zero Harm culture and driving continuous improvement initiatives
Who we're looking for
- Experience working within construction, utilities, power, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of safe systems of work and risk management processes.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a project team and build strong stakeholder relationships.
- Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to learning and development.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Previous experience working on Overhead Line (OHL) projects.
- Knowledge of National Grid standards and procedures.
- Experience working with subcontractors and site teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
- Experience of working on major infrastructure or utility projects.
- Degree, HNC/HND or working towards a qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- CSCS Card.
- SSSTS or equivalent site supervision qualification desirable
