The Pop In Community Café is more than just a café – we're a social enterprise where every coffee served and every meal prepared helps support the work of All About Us, improving the lives of autistic children, young people, adults and families across our community.
We're looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and skilled Cook to join our kitchen team and help deliver high-quality, consistent food in a welcoming community setting.
You'll work as part of a supportive team, taking responsibility for food preparation, cooking, presentation and ensuring full compliance with all food safety, hygiene and operational standards.
Your Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook and present food to a high and consistent standard in line with menu specifications.
- Ensure all food is prepared safely, efficiently and in accordance with Food Hygiene Regulations and HACCP procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date food safety records, including temperature logs, cooking and cooling records, and cleaning schedules.
- Complete and maintain allergen documentation and ensure clear communication of allergen information to front of house staff.
- Follow strict traceability procedures for all food products, including labelling, dating and stock rotation (FIFO).
- Carry out and record daily, weekly and periodic cleaning schedules in line with Health & Safety and Environmental Health requirements.
- Support stock control, including receiving deliveries, checking quality, and recording stock usage and waste.
- Ensure correct storage of all food items in line with legal requirements.
- Work in compliance with COSHH regulations and safe use of cleaning chemicals.
- Maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene, organisation and presentation at all times.
- Support menu development and contribute ideas for seasonal dishes and specials.
- Work closely with front of house staff to ensure smooth service and consistent customer experience.
- Ensure all food served meets agreed presentation standards and portion control guidelines.
- Support internal and external inspections by ensuring all records and documentation are audit-ready at all times.
- Working with vulnerable young people, training younger staff and managing the kitchen.
We're Looking For Someone Who Has
- Experience working as a cook or in a professional kitchen environment.
- Strong understanding of Food Hygiene, HACCP and Health & Safety regulations.
- Experience completing and maintaining compliance records and documentation.
- Knowledge of allergen management and food safety legislation.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy kitchen environment.
- A commitment to high standards of food quality, consistency and presentation.
- A positive attitude and team-focused approach.
- Basic IT skills for record keeping and documentation (training provided if needed).
