Job Description:
Parity Education is seeking one calm, observant and highly adaptable SEND Tutor to deliver two individualised 1:1 education packages for young people with SEND. The successful applicant will provide 10 hours per week to one learner and 6 hours per week to the other, creating a consistent 16-hour role across both placements.
Both learners need education to be practical, purposeful and closely matched to their individual needs. Sessions should be structured and predictable while remaining flexible enough to respond to each learner’s presentation and readiness to engage.
This role requires a practitioner who can build trusting relationships, respond thoughtfully to communication and regulation cues, maintain clear professional boundaries and work constructively with families, carers and the wider professional team. Existing care and support arrangements will remain in place; the tutor’s role is educational and does not replace personal care or specialist clinical support.

The role
The tutor will deliver two separate, person-centred 1:1 programmes. Although the learners have different starting points, both benefit from calm, consistent and relationship-focused practice that makes education accessible and meaningful.
The role will include:
- building trust and establishing predictable, supportive routines;
- adapting communication, pacing and task demands to each learner;
- using visual structure, modelling, repetition and practical activities;
- supporting functional learning, communication, literacy, numeracy, independence and preparation for adulthood;
- working closely with Parity Education and the adults supporting each learner so agreed strategies are applied consistently.
Detailed student information, support strategies and relevant risk arrangements will be shared confidentially with suitable applicants as part of the matching and onboarding process.
Duties
- Design and deliver two distinct, person-centred 1:1 programmes totalling 16 hours each week; do not use a one-size-fits-all approach across the learners.
- Plan engaging functional learning that develops communication, literacy, numeracy, independence, life skills, sensory regulation and preparation for adulthood.
- Use visual structure, modelling, repetition, special interests, practical activities and community-based learning to make sessions meaningful and accessible.
- Establish predictable routines, prepare learners for transitions and changes, and adapt pacing and demands in response to communication, sensory and emotional cues.
- Work closely with Parity Education, families, residential or care staff and relevant professionals so that strategies are applied safely and consistently.
- Maintain accurate daily records through Tutor Hub, monitor engagement and progress, and adapt provision through reflective practice.
- Follow safeguarding, risk-management and escalation procedures at all times, while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
Experience
- Relevant experience teaching or supporting young people or young adults with autism and a range of learning and communication needs.
- Confidence adapting education for different communication profiles and using visual or alternative approaches where appropriate.
- Experience with functional skills, life-skills teaching, sensory regulation, community-based learning, alternative provision, tutoring, education, youth work or specialist support.
- A calm, warm and consistent approach, with strong observation skills and the ability to build trust without forcing engagement.
- The maturity to follow agreed support and risk arrangements, collaborate closely with care teams and remain focused on educational outcomes.
- Patience, resilience, sound professional judgement and a willingness to receive feedback and develop specialist SEND practice.
- Teaching qualifications are welcome but are not essential; safeguarding awareness, reliable record-keeping and professional boundaries are essential.
- Applicants must be able to travel reliably to both the Ashford and Romney Marsh locations.
This is one combined vacancy. Applicants must be available and suitable to deliver both the 10-hour and 6-hour packages, subject to matching, safeguarding checks and final timetable agreement.
