We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team working on the Sellafield site. This pivotal role involves leading the electrical engineering aspects of installing, commissioning, and maintaining our specialised door systems within this high-hazard nuclear environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of our electrical installations. A key objective will be working towards and gaining your formal Sellafield site nomination.
This is a predominantly site-based role, requiring a hands-on approach and leadership on the ground.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Delivery:
- Lead the electrical installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of Clark Door systems at Sellafield.
- Ensure all electrical work meets project specifications, functional requirements, and is fully integrated/optimised.
- Oversee front-line supervision and coordination of electrical installation teams and subcontractors.
- Provide expert technical guidance and problem-solving for complex electrical issues on site.
Compliance & Safety (Nuclear Focus):
- Ensure strict adherence to all Sellafield site safety rules, procedures, and permit to work systems.
- Compliance with relevant nuclear industry standards, electrical regulations (BS 7671), and Clark Door quality/assurance requirements.
- Champion a culture of nuclear safety, leading by example and promoting best practices.
- Liaise effectively with Sellafield's Intelligent Customer personnel regarding standards and procedures SAP(e).
Site Nomination & SQEP:
- Actively work towards achieving and maintaining personal Sellafield site nomination status.
- Ensure all electrical personnel under your coordination are Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP) for their assigned tasks.
- Oversee the checking, validation, verification, and approval of electrical work in accordance with Clark Door / SL procedures and SLSP/SLP competence.
Operational Support:
- Manage accurate maintenance records and documentation for electrical systems.
- Support planning, scheduling, and resource allocation for electrical works.
- Undertake fault finding, diagnostics, and repair of complex electrical control systems.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, project managers, and client representatives.
- Attend all relevant Stakeholder meetings.
- Assist with RAMS as and where necessary.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
- Recognised Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship (e.g., NVQ Level 3) AND/OR HNC/HND/Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Full UK Driving Licence (Essential due to site location and potential off-site work).
Experience:
- Significant proven experience as an Electrical Engineer, preferably in a Lead/Chargehand/Supervisory capacity.
- Demonstrable experience installing, commissioning, and maintaining electrical systems in highly regulated industrial environments (Nuclear, Petrochem, Pharma, Heavy Manufacturing).
- Strong understanding of electrical/industrial control systems (PLC, drives, sensors).
- Experience interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Proven track record of working safely under strict permit-to-work systems.
Knowledge & Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Proficiency in relevant Microsoft Office packages.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
