Overview
Corbel Conservation are one of the leading heritage contractors within our sector. We specialize in the conservation, repair or adaptation of the nations historic architecture. Our operations stretch throughout the South West region and occasionally beyond. We are fortunate enough to have the skills and knowledge that allows us to work on some of the most architecturally important buildings in the country. Due to continuous but steady growth and the award of some new exciting projects we are looking to add to our in house carpentry team.
Starting salary can be discussed at interview and will be subject to experience, knowledge and level of skill from each applicant.
Responsibilities
- Construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, and wallboard.
- Fabricate and assemble wooden frameworks for roofs, floors, and doorframes.
- Use hand tools such as saws, chisels, and hammers to shape materials.
- Operate power tools including drills, sanders, and nail guns safely and effectively.
- Perform heavy lifting as required to transport materials to job sites.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with building codes and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with other tradespeople on-site to ensure project completion.
- Conduct repairs on existing structures as needed, including plumb adjustments and painting.
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Carpenter or similar role in the construction industry.
- Qualified to at least NVQ level 3 in site or bench carpentry.
- Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques and methods.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely.
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches accurately.
- Experience with roofing systems is advantageous.
- Familiarity with basic electrical work is a plus.
- Excellent physical condition with the ability to perform heavy lifting.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ideally but not essentially will have experience of working on listed or historic buildings or will posses a passion to do so.
- Full UK driving license and have the ability to transport yourself to and from the various sites that you will be engaged upon
- Provide own hand and standard power tools, other more bespoke tools would be provided by the company.
