6 hour a week carer / Personal Assistant
6 hours a week - either 1 carer, or 2 carers with 3 hours each (or 2hrs + 4hrs)
This role is exempt under Section 9 of the Equality Act 2010 - female applicants only due to the nature of personal care involved and Lior's privacy, dignity and wellbeing in her home.
1 hr per evening
Suggested days: Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat (not Sunday)
Starting 8pm or 9pm
Also looking for emergency cover candidates
Background
I’m Lior - a 36 year old woman living alone. I have a condition called ME/CFS which affects my energy so much that I am housebound. Before I got ill I lived a very active life and had a career as a designer.
I’m looking for a capable, compassionate carer who lives locally.
Experience as a carer is desirable but not necessary.
Regular tasks
Microwaving dinner
Chopping veg for salad lunches
Chopping and roasting veg
Occasionally cooking simple dishes like pasta
Further ability to cook very welcome and desirable
Washing hair weekly and assistance with bathing if needed
Cleaning the flat: standard clean. Vacuuming, wiping, dusting, changing sheets, etc
Taking out bins
Washing dishes
Loading dishwasher (I’ll show you how), emptying dishwasher, putting away crockery etc
Laundry
Folding and putting away laundry
Occasional tasks
In warmer months, wiping down outdoor furniture before guests come the following day
Helping put up and take down seasonal and Christmas decorations
Making pancakes for pancake day
Moral support when I have to self-inject, if my normal support is absent
Reorganising space to be more tidy
On occasion, when time and if I have enough energy, sorting through storage with me
On occasion, potting seedling indoor plants with my supervision if needed
Changing lightbulbs
Ad hoc going to very local shop to get something needed that I missed on a grocery delivery
Posting letters
If something breaks, helping me work out what to do about it, eg helping me write to landlady
If you have the skill, helping fix things eg tightening furniture screws, fixing necklace clasp
Support for organising to contact and see friends (sometimes need prompting or help finding the words, because of brain fog)
It would be helpful if you can drive. Rarely, I need things taken to charity shops, specially recycled, posted in a post office, etc. If this type of task is possible for you, it would be likely at a time of your choosing, with time taken away from time spent working in my home.
Very rarely I go to appointments outside the home; it would be helpful to be driven but it would mean switching working hours that week. Definitely a bonus if this would be possible.
Future possibility
going around the block with me in wheelchair
checking stock of medication and supplements using my spreadsheet
watering plants
Supporting cooking traditional foods for festivals
Potentially further personal care beyond hair washing
Other tasks may come up as useful over time. It’s new for me to have this level of support. Some flexibility is helpful.
