Marie’s Tearoom is looking for a reliable and experienced Tea Room Cook / Café Assistant to join our small team.
The main part of the role will be preparing simple tearoom and café food, including breakfasts, lunches, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, children’s meals, afternoon teas, platters and event food.
The role may also include baking or helping to prepare cakes, scones, traybakes, desserts and other tearoom items, so baking experience would be a strong advantage.
As we are a small independent business, the successful person must also be willing to support front of house when needed. This includes making teas and coffees, serving customers, clearing tables and helping with the general running of the tearoom.
We need someone who can work cleanly, follow food hygiene procedures, stay calm under pressure and help keep the tearoom running smoothly.
Main duties include:
Preparing and cooking tearoom food
Preparing breakfasts, lunches, sandwiches, jacket potatoes and children’s meals
Supporting afternoon teas, platters, parties and events
Baking or helping to prepare cakes, scones, traybakes and desserts where required
Keeping the kitchen clean, organised and well-stocked
Following food hygiene, allergen and safety procedures
Helping with washing up, cleaning, stock rotation and daily checks
Making teas, coffees and other drinks when needed
Serving customers and clearing tables during busy periods
Supporting the wider team with the day-to-day running of the tearoom
The right person will be:
Reliable and punctual
Confident working in a kitchen or café environment
Friendly and polite with customers
Calm during busy periods
Clean, organised and safety-conscious
Able to follow instructions, checklists and food hygiene procedures
Happy to work as part of a small team
Willing to help both in the kitchen and front of house
Flexible and willing to support events, holidays and sickness cover
Experience required:
Previous experience in a café, tearoom, kitchen, catering or hospitality role is preferred.
Baking experience would be a strong advantage, especially experience making cakes, scones, traybakes, simple desserts or other tearoom-style items.
Food hygiene knowledge is important, although training can be provided for the right person.
Hours:
Part-time hours to start, with the possibility of additional hours depending on business needs, events, holidays and sickness cover.
Weekends will be required.
Pay: Up to £12.80 per hour
Work Location: In person
