An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Admin Assistant/Trainee accountant to join our vibrant, young accountancy firm.
Role Purpose
The role provides training and practical experience across core accounting, tax, and administrative activities in a professional practice environment.
Key Responsibilities - Admin & Bookkeeping Support
Assist and support all members of staff in all aspects of the role.
Dealing with in and outgoing telephone calls in a professional manner
Meeting and greeting all visitors and clients
Checking all incoming post/coding/scanning/sending copies to relevant parties
Diary management – arranging meetings and ensuring relevant paperwork is ready for meetings.
As you develop in your role you will assist seniors with bookkeeping, process purchase invoices, sales invoices, and bank transactions/keeping books up to date/prepare managements, chasing outstanding fees/reconcile bank accounts. Using accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Excel and other)
Preparing outgoing correspondence to clients, HMRC, Companies House etc.
Liaising with Companies House and HMRC regarding client requests and appeals, filing accounts, Confirmation Statements and other documents with Companies House.
Preparing references for mortgage applications
Dealing with clearance requests
Set up limited companies and preparation of new client engagement packs
Ensuring all office supplies are stocked at all times - Making sure the office runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis.
Maintain accurate and well‑organised client records
Support preparation of sole trader and partnership accounts
Help prepare working papers and schedules
Help gather information for self‑assessment returns
Learn compliance deadlines and regulatory requirements
Learning & Development
Study towards a relevant accounting qualification as part of the apprenticeship
Attend training sessions and workshops as required
Apply new knowledge to practical work
Maintain training logs and meet apprenticeship requirements
Skills & Attributes
Good GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English
Strong attention to detail
Willingness to learn and develop professionally
Basic IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
Professional attitude and good communication skills
Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
A‑level or equivalent qualifications
Basic understanding of accounting or finance
Previous office or customer service experience
Familiarity with accounting software (not essential)
