Overview
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Fire Protection Systems Operative to join our team working on a major oil refinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, servicing, testing and repair of fire protection systems and equipment across site.
This role involves working on firewater systems, sprinkler and drencher (deluge) systems, fire hoses, extinguishers, valves and associated equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a high-hazard industrial environment.

- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Desirable
- Experience working within industrial, petrochemical, refinery or COMAH environments. Desirable
- Counterbalance Forklift and B2 licences. Desirable
Qualifications
- Safety Passport (CCNSG or equivalent). Essential
- Full UK Driving Licence. Essential
- MEWP Licence. Essential
- GCSE Math’s and English at Grade C/Level 4 or above (or equivalent). Desirable
- Slinging and Signaling Qualification. Desirable
- Counterbalance Forklift Licence. Desirable
- IOSH Managing Safely. Desirable
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain and service fire protection equipment and systems across the refinery.
- Carry out maintenance, repair and testing of firewater mains, sprinkler systems and drencher (deluge) systems.
- Remove, replace and maintain valves and associated fire protection equipment.
- Strip down, clean, flush and reassemble fire suppression system components.
- Service, inspect and maintain portable fire extinguishers.
- Conduct operational testing of fire hoses, hydrants and related equipment.
- Operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Work in accordance with site permit-to-work systems, risk assessments and company procedures.
- Complete maintenance records, inspection reports and mandatory documentation accurately and to a high standard.
- Support planned preventative maintenance activities and system improvements.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety and environmental compliance at all times.
- Attend training courses and develop skills required to support the role.
