Affinity Flying Services is looking to appoint a Safety Officer to join our Safety & Compliance team at RAF Valley. This is a key aviation safety role supporting the Aviation Safety Manager and helping to maintain the highest standards of safety and assurance across our operations.
This position would suit a motivated, inquisitive individual with a strong safety mindset who is comfortable working with minimal supervision and building effective relationships across the business.
The Role
As Safety Officer, you will play a vital role in promoting a strong safety culture and providing aviation safety assurance. You will act as the focal point for aviation safety at RAF Valley, supporting hazard identification, risk management, and safety investigations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Promoting and encouraging effective use of the Safety Management System (SMS)
- Leading and supporting aviation safety investigations, including human factors and root cause analysis
- Managing safety reports through both civil and military reporting systems
- Supporting local management with hazard identification and risk management activities
- Acting as the site focal point for aviation safety, escalating concerns where appropriate
- Assisting with the development and delivery of SMS training across Affinity sites
- Collating and presenting safety data at meetings in support of the Aviation Safety Manager
- Supporting operational requirements outside normal working hours when required
- Travelling between Affinity sites as requested
What We’re Looking For
Essential experience and skills:
- Knowledge of safety management principles and practices
- Experience working collaboratively with teams to support business outputs
- A questioning, analytical mindset with an interest in continual improvement
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and use sound professional judgement
- Strong interpersonal skills and a professional, credible approach
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Experience in an aviation or aviation maintenance environment
- Knowledge of military regulatory publications
- Experience using SMS software (e.g. Centrik, Q-Pulse, ASIMS)
- Audit experience
- Human Factors, SMS, NEBOSH or IOSH certification
- ISO 9001 or AS9100 Lead Auditor qualification
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related tools (Excel, Visio, Power BI, Project)
Salary: £36,000 – £38,000 per annum (FTE – pro rata for part-time working)
