Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and dependable HGV Driver/Yard Person to join our dynamic team. In this dual-role position, you will be responsible for safely operating a heavy goods vehicle to deliver goods efficiently and securely, while also assisting with yard operations. Your energetic approach will ensure timely deliveries, smooth yard management, and excellent service to our clients. This role offers an exciting opportunity to combine skilled driving with hands-on yard duties in a family run company.
Duties
- Safely operate 18T HGV with HIAB for local and UK mainland deliveries (once or twice a month), ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and road laws
- Load and unload goods using appropriate equipment, verifying accuracy against delivery documentation
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections, report any maintenance issues promptly, and maintain vehicle cleanliness and safety standards
- Assist in yard activities such as organizing storage areas, moving materials for production, and supporting loading/unloading operations
- Ensure all deliveries are completed on time
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, vehicle logs, and yard activities for operational efficiency
- Follow all company policies and legal requirements related to commercial driving and transportation
Requirements
- Proven experience as a delivery driver with a focus on commercial driving, preferably with HIAB usage
- Valid HGV license (Class 2) with a clean driving record
- Prior experience working as a delivery driver or yard person
- Knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards for commercial vehicles
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as loading/unloading cargo and yard organization
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with team members and clients
- Flexibility to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed (majority of time will be 8am to 5pm Mon/Thur and Fri 8am to 2pm)
