AKIRA, a Japanese restaurant located in central London, is seeking a General Manager (GM) to oversee all aspects of front-of-house operations and overall restaurant management.
Working alongside Japanese Master Chef Hal Yamashita, you will have the opportunity to deliver unforgettable dining experiences to guests.
This role combines Japanese hospitality × European service culture × your own sensibility, allowing you to offer a highly creative and rewarding experience to guests from around the world.
Applicants who can speak or understand Japanese, or who have an interest in the Japanese language and culture, are welcome.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the overall operation and performance of the restaurant
- Manage sales, profitability, labour costs, and inventory control
- Lead, train, and develop the front-of-house team
- Ensure exceptional guest experiences and maintain high service standards
- Plan and support seasonal events, promotions, and special dining experiences
- Monitor operational efficiency and implement continuous improvements
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations
- Work closely with the Executive Chef and kitchen team to achieve business and service objectives
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of managerial experience in a restaurant, café, or bar
- Solid front-of-house and operational skills (order taking, service, staff management, etc.)
- Interest in Japanese cuisine and food culture
- Strong teamwork and leadership skills
Preferred Skills & Qualities
- Responsible, diligent, and able to see tasks through to completion
- Interest in Japanese food culture and seasonality
- Desire to provide personalized, memorable service to guests
- Polite, friendly, and confident in front-of-house interactions
- Accounting experience or health & safety certifications are advantageous
- Creative and willing to propose new service ideas or operational improvements

Working Conditions
- Location: London (High Street Kensington)
- Employment type: Full-time (3-month probation, followed by review)
- Shifts:
- Tuesday–Saturday: 10:00–23:00
- Sunday: 10:00–18:00
- Monday: Closed
- Salary: Competitive, based on experience
