About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our UKCS Living Places business, based in Sleaford, Lincolnshire.
As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you will play a vital role in maintaining and improving the local highway network, helping to keep roads, footways and public spaces safe and accessible for local communities. Working as part of a dedicated operational team, you will undertake a variety of maintenance and construction activities, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
Our Living Places teams work in partnership with Local Authorities to develop, manage and maintain essential infrastructure that communities rely on every day, creating safer, more sustainable and better-connected places for people to live and work.
What you'll be doing
- Carrying out a wide range of highways maintenance activities, including drainage works, kerb laying, footway improvements, vegetation clearance, excavation works and asphalt repairs.
- Working safely at all times and supporting a culture of Zero Harm.
- Reporting observations, close calls and good practices to support continual improvement.
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with statutory requirements, company procedures and quality standards.
- Using plant, equipment and machinery effectively to deliver work safely and efficiently.
- Managing materials and resources responsibly to support successful project delivery.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders and customers to provide an excellent service.
- Supporting emergency response requirements, winter maintenance operations and out-of-hours activities when required.
- Demonstrating flexibility to work overtime and alternative shift patterns to meet operational requirements.
- Acting as a positive ambassador for Balfour Beatty at all times.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for a motivated individual who takes pride in delivering high-quality work and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety. You will be a reliable team player with a positive attitude, strong work ethic and a flexible approach to meeting operational demands.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong commitment to health and safety.
- Pride in delivering quality workmanship.
- Honest, trustworthy and committed to acting with integrity.
- Flexible approach to overtime and shift working when required.
- Experience within highways maintenance, groundworks or construction environments.
- EUSR excavation qualifications.
- Confined Space training.
- NRSWA accreditation.
- CSCS Highway Maintenance card.
- Class 1 or Class 2 LGV licence.
- Driver CPC qualification.
- Telehandler training and/or vacuum excavation experience.
