Job Overview
Edison’s Coffee & Wine Southampton is looking for an experienced, confident and energetic Café Manager/Head Barista to lead our friendly team and oversee the café’s daily operations.
The successful candidate will be hands-on, working alongside the team to prepare high-quality coffees, serve customers and ensure the café operates smoothly. You should be comfortable leading shifts independently, managing staff and maintaining excellent standards of customer service, cleanliness and food safety.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead the café team and manage daily front-of-house operations
- Prepare and serve high-quality speciality coffees and other drinks
- Deliver friendly, professional and efficient customer service
- Open and close the café and complete all required checks
- Supervise, support and train baristas and front-of-house staff
- Organise staff rotas and arrange cover when necessary
- Monitor stock levels, place orders and reduce unnecessary waste
- Handle customer enquiries and resolve complaints professionally
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and presentation
- Ensure food hygiene, health and safety procedures are followed
- Complete temperature records, cleaning checks and other compliance paperwork
- Manage cash, till procedures and end-of-day reconciliation
- Support the owners with improving sales, service and café operations
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Café Manager, Supervisor, Head Barista or in a similar role
- Strong barista skills, including espresso preparation and milk steaming
- Confident leadership and team-management abilities
- Excellent customer-service and communication skills
- Reliable, organised and able to remain calm during busy periods
- Good understanding of food hygiene and workplace safety
- Available to work early mornings, weekends and bank holidays when required
- Eligible to work in the United Kingdom
Desirable
- Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate
- Experience creating staff rotas and managing stock
- Experience training new baristas
- Knowledge of allergens and food-safety records
