Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate carer to support a gentleman living in South Wimbledon with advanced Parkinson's disease and intermittent dementia.
About the Role This is a part-time, live-out position running Monday to Friday, 5 hours per day. The current schedule is split across two visits:
- Morning/Lunchtime visit: 10:00am – 1:00pm
- Afternoon visit: 2:45pm – 4:45pm
Care Needs The client is mobile and is able to go out for walks, however he requires careful physical support at key moments due to unsteadiness associated with his Parkinson's. Specifically, carers should be attentive and ready to assist when he rises from a chair or from the loo, where he can be quite wobbly and at risk of falls.
Key responsibilities include:
- Medication support – assisting with and/or prompting the client to take his medications correctly and on time
- Mobility assistance – providing steady, reassuring support when the client stands up from seated positions (chair, toilet, etc.)
- Mealtime support – lunch is prepared by a household member; the carer is responsible for assisting the client with eating his lunch
- Dementia support – providing patient, consistent, and person-centred care in line with the client's cognitive needs, which may vary day to day
- Pet care – some assistance with pet care may be required
Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who:
- Has prior experience supporting individuals with Parkinson's disease and/or dementia
- Is confident in fall prevention and safe handling techniques
- Is patient, calm, and able to adapt to the fluctuating nature of intermittent dementia
- Is reliable, punctual, and professional
