We are renowned for excellence in complex metal working and manufacture shafts, rings, discs, asymmetric forgings and extruded cylinders in a range of titanium, nickel and steel alloys.
The role
This extremely interesting apprenticeship will centre around the design, simulation, and physical validation of forging tooling and manufacturing processes within a Closed Die Forging environment tailored to manufacturing Aerospace Engine components. The successful applicant will assist with CAD modelling (Siemens NX), FEA analysis (DEFORM), and technical drawing, while simultaneously providing shop-floor support for trial evaluations, press setups, CNC machining and dimensional inspections under the mentorship of senior engineers.
Some of the specific duties within the role will include:
- Extrusion tooling design
- Upset tooling design
- 16000 ton tooling design
- Tooling costing and lead time
- Create inspection drawings and fixtures (forge inspection, CMM )
- Create waterjet fixtures and profile
- Initial press settings and press setup (Die heights, energy, furnace temperatures etc)
- Existing tooling modifications, update paperwork
- Supporting production and maintenance.
Training
In addition to college studies, you will learn:
- CAD Siemens NX
- Solid Modelling
- Surface Modelling
- Technical Engineering Drawing and Tolerancing
- Deform (FEA Analysis)
- 3D Forming
- Die Stress Analysis
- Quality management system
- Faro arm inspection
The successful applicant will:
- Have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grade C or above, including Maths, English and Sciences
- Have completed Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations (PEO)
- Have completed, or be working toward, Level 3 BTEC or VRQ Diploma in Engineering
