Classroom Link is currently recruiting a creative and enthusiastic Music Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist SEMH setting in Coventry.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with a passion for music who wants to use their skills to engage and inspire young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. You will support pupils through practical music sessions, helping them build confidence, express themselves creatively, regulate emotions, and re-engage with education.
Previous school experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from musicians, music graduates, tutors, performers, youth workers, and individuals with experience supporting children or young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEMH needs during practical and engaging music sessions
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to help students access learning
- Use music as a tool to build confidence, encourage self-expression, and promote positive engagement
- Build strong, trusting relationships with young people who may have experienced barriers to education
- Support positive behaviour using calm and consistent approaches
- Work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to meet individual pupil needs
- Assist with preparing instruments, equipment, and resources
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment
Requirements
- A genuine passion for music and supporting young people
- Musical ability or experience playing an instrument is highly desirable
- A calm, patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience supporting young people with SEMH, SEN, behavioural needs, or additional needs is desirable
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
